My late wife and I moved to Delaware from the Midwest in 1954 and were captivated by the Chesapeake. We taught ourselves to sail in the Northeast River aboard an old 18-foot Chestertown sloop. Later, with a young family and a newer boat, we sailed the northern Bay and swam in clear water at 'Belly Button Beach.' We ate oysters and crabs, and drank Natty Boh.
As our family grew older, we watched our precious Chesapeake decline. When CBF was founded in 1967, saving the Bay was a faint hope. Today, people realize that the work CBF is doing might be the last realistic chance to restore and preserve the Bay for future generations. It's my wish, and my late wife's, that new families will have the same opportunities to enjoy this national treasure as we did. I support CBF with annual contributions and through my estate plans to further that hope for the future.
